A gaming chair accumulates sweat, dust and food scraps in areas you almost never see: the seam of the backrest, the wheels and the base of the seat. Cleaning each material with the right product prevents the upholstery from cracking or the foam from losing its firmness.
Before you start: remove dry dirt
Vacuum the entire seat and backrest using the upholstery brush. This preliminary step prevents dust from turning into mud when you dampen it. On the wheels, an old toothbrush pulls out the hairs wound around the axle.
Synthetic leather or PU
Polyurethane is cleaned with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened in warm water with a drop of mild soap. Rub in gentle circles and dry immediately: prolonged moisture dries out the coating and causes cracks. Avoid alcohol and ammonia-based cleaners, which dull the shine.
Fabric and technical textiles
For polyester or breathable mesh, prepare a foam with water and mild soap. Apply it with a sponge, let it sit for a minute and wipe off with a clean cloth. Do not soak the inner foam: if you notice moisture, dry it with a hairdryer on cool air about 30 cm away.
Mesh and plastic areas
The mesh of the backrest is cleaned with a damp cloth and a cotton swab at the joints. Plastic armrests can take soapy water, but it’s best to dry them well so your hands don’t slip. On metal parts, a cloth with diluted vinegar removes fingerprints without scratching.
What to always avoid
Do not use concentrated bleach, pressurized steam on the upholstery, or abrasive scouring pads. Also, never apply cleaners directly onto the chair: always onto a cloth. A five-minute weekly wipe-down and a deep clean every three months are enough to keep your gaming chair looking and feeling like the first day.
