Limpieza de Sofás de Tela

Sofa and pets: how to clean fabrics and maintain colors

Living with dogs or cats doesn’t have to clash with an impeccable sofa, but it does require a method. Hair, saliva, and odor make the difference between a fabric that ages well and one that fades within a few months. Before scrubbing, identify the fabric: linen, cotton, polyester, or velvet respond differently, and a misread label can ruin the upholstery.

Preparation according to the space

In a small apartment, vacuum the sofa twice a week with an upholstery nozzle; in a house with a garden, dust and sand accumulate more and it’s best to vacuum daily during the rainy seasons. Seat height matters: low models accumulate hair on the underside, while high-legged ones allow air to circulate and reduce humidity. If the living room is small, choose straight shapes and tightly woven fabrics; in spacious rooms you can afford a chaise longue and removable cushion covers.

Washing the fabric without damaging the color

Remove the cushions and shake them outdoors before vacuuming. For stains from paws or drool, prepare a solution of warm water with a capful of mild soap, apply with a microfiber cloth, and dry without soaking. Never use bleach or pure vinegar on intense colors: gray, petrol blue, or mustard lose their vibrancy. For removable covers, wash at 30 degrees and dry flat to prevent deformation. If the fabric isn’t removable, dry foam is your ally: spread it on, let it sit for ten minutes, and remove with a vacuum.

Odors and hair, two separate battles

Pet odor settles into the seat foam. Sprinkle baking soda, let it sit for an hour, and vacuum; repeat every two weeks. For hair, a damp chamois or a rubber glove picks up more than any brush. Place a washable blanket in the animal’s favorite spot and rotate the cushions every week to even out wear.

A routine that works

Vacuum, ventilate, and rotate cushions: three weekly gestures are enough to preserve the shape, color, and freshness of the sofa, even with two dogs and a cat at home.
